Who is Enver Pasha, His Life in Brief?


Enver Pasha, born on November 22, 1881, was an Ottoman soldier and politician who was active in the last years of the Ottoman Empire. His real name is "Ismail Enver". He commanded the 3rd Army and the Caucasian Islamic Army.


He was among the founders of the Committee of Union and Progress. He participated in the revolutionary movement in Macedonia. After the declaration of the Second Constitutional Monarchy, he began to be known as the "Hero of Freedom".


Enver's rapid rise, whose star was shining with the Young Turks Revolution in 1908, started when he was promoted to Colonel in 1913, again at the end of the same year, and to Pasha on January 1, 1914, 19 days later. He participated in the Babıali raid organized by the Committee of Union and Progress on January 23, 1913. He ensured the resignation of Grand Vizier Kamil Pasha. Thus, after the Committee of Union and Progress seized power, he played an important role in the liberation of Edirne. After this success, Enver Pasha, who was promoted to the rank of colonel and then brigadier general, became the Minister of War in the government of Said Halim Pasha in 1914. He married the daughter of Şehzade Süleyman. Enver Pasha, who made some adjustments in the army, applied the German style instead of the French model.

 

In 1914, he married Naciye Sultan, the granddaughter of Sultan Abdülmecit (the daughter of Şehzade Süleyman) and became a groom to the Ottoman dynasty. He has daughters named Türkân Mayatepek (d.1989) and Mahpeyker Ürgüp and a son named Ali Enver Akoğlu (1921-1971) from this marriage. Enver Pasha was also the brother-in-law of Kazım Orbay, one of the former chiefs of the General Staff.

 

After the defeat of the First World War, he made many struggles in Germany and Russia to bring the Turkish peoples together. is dead.

 

In February 1922, he captured Dushanbe with the Basmachi troops he gathered under his command and captured the Soviet garrison there. Then he marched on Khorasan and demanded the withdrawal of the Red Army units from Bukhara and Khorasan. After losing the Battle of Kafiran on 28 June 1922, he was forced to retreat to the mountains. He died in a battle against the Bolshevik Russians under Agop Melkovian's command near Belchivan in Tajikistan on August 4, 1922, during the Eid al-Adha, when a mortar fell on him and was buried in the village of Çegen.
