WHAT IS ORIENTALISM? ORIGIN AND HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT

Although they have had many meanings in history, the term ”Orientalist’ was used for people researching the East and ”Orientalism’ was used for the whole discipline covering these studies. With the involvement of Oriental researchers in these studies and research chairs, the term Orientalism has become controversial and is no longer sufficient in terms of its scope.

Edward Said understands orientalism as ‘many things, all based on each other’ and defines it in his work as follows:
