Sultan TUTUŞ
His father was Alp Arslan, the sultan of the Great Seljuk State. Tutuş was appointed to the city of Damascus as the Seljuk Emir by his brother Melikşah in 1079. However, after Kutalmışoğlu Süleyman Shah, the founder of the Turkish Seljuk State, captured Antakya in 1085, he wanted to have all of Syria. Suleiman Shah besieged Aleppo for this purpose. He sought help from Ibn Huteyti Tutuş, the governor of the city. Tutuş took one of the talented Seljuks commander Artuk Bey (the founder of the Artuqid Principality) with him and encountered Süleyman Şah near Aleppo on 4 June 1086 (Battle of Ayn Seylem). Suleiman Shah died in the war. Tutuş captured Aleppo and declared himself the sultan of Syria.
However, Melikşah came to Syria and reconnected the region to the Great Seljuk State. Tutus had to retreat to Damascus.
Tutuş entered the sultanate struggle with his nephew Berkyaruk, who came to the throne of the Great Seljuk State in 1094. He died in 1095 by losing the war he fought with the armies of Berkyaruk near the city of Rey. After Tutuş's death, his younger son Dukak declared his reign in Damascus. His eldest son Rıdvan, who rebelled against this situation, captured Aleppo. Thus, the Syrian Seljuk State was divided into two branches as Aleppo Melik and Damascus Melik.
Today, there is a village with the same name (Tutuş) within the borders of Dodurga district of Çorum province. It is said that this village was founded by Tutuş.
